Our staff have a range of training & development opportunities available to them.
Our permanent staff each have personal development plans, and as well as formal skills based training, we organise various in-house events.

On-farm formal training includes driving off-road vehicles, chainsaws, tractors, working at heights, handling chemicals and first aid.

Primary ITO courses are offered, and staff are given time off to complete the papers or practical courses.

Managers and Stock Managers meet three times a year for “Focus Days” which cover operational matters, personal development and leadership and often visit other farms or businesses.

We also run discussion groups for our staff at various levels. The Second-In-Charge (2IC) discussion group has been running for a number of years to extend our more senior shepherds and employees. What these sessions cover and the frequency evolves with changes in staff and the current relevance of topics. The group generally meets up to five times a year with an independent farm advisor to upskill on practical farm management and strategic thinking to prepare them for management roles.

Other group events are organised as opportunities arise including shepherd days, all staff gatherings, industry events and field days.
